Hi guys!! How was your start of the week?
Today I have Essie Summer 2014 Collection which is called Haute In The Heat. I am doing this because I only came to possession of all the polishes recently and I wasn’t blogging last year at the time it came out :).
This collection contains some beautiful bright colours and one nude, which is by the way one of my favourite colours of all time.
Urban Jungle – Essie Summer 2014
First one I swatched is alabaster orchid. It is a nude creme with a pink touch. Beautiful!! First I bought myself the USA version with a thinner brush, but now I have EU version too and this is the one that I swatched here.
It needed two coats to reach full opacity and there were visible brush strokes with the first coat, but that cleared with the second one. It maybe was a little streaky at first, but when it dried it totally evened out.
The application was easy, except for the brush. It was funny looking and it had a strange shape, normally it is beautifully rounded, but not here. And some of the bristles were longer than the rest, so that was a little annoying when I was applying the polish.
Fierce, No Fear – Essie Summer 2014
This is a cocoa, chocolate creme. This one was my least favourite of the bunch. I don’t even know if it is a summer colour. It reminds me a little of chocolate ice cream, so yeah, it could be summer.
It needed two coats to reach full opacity and it wasn’t streaky or there were no brush strokes. It was easy to apply and this brush was the perfect shape. I don’t know why all the essies haven’t the same brush.
It was a bit sheer with the first coat and it seemed a touch browner too with one coat. The second coat added a little grayness to it and it was fully opaque with the second coat.
Roarrrrange – Essie Summer 2014
Waw!! This colour pops!! It is a neon orange. A vibrant neon orange that is perfect for hot summer. And the name suits it very much, it just makes you want to roar when looking at nails.
It was almost opaque in one coat and there were no brush strokes, no streakiness. The application was easy and it had a jelly finish.
Haute In The Heat – Essie Summer 2014
This is a hot pink, like hot raspberry. And it is a little darker in person, but just a little.
It was opaque in one coat, but I applied two for the swatching purposes. There were no brush strokes and no streakiness.
The brush was funny looking here too. Some of the bristles were longer then the most and that gave me some issues applying polish close to the cuticles. And I don’t know if the consistency of the polish or the brush was the reason for cuticle flooding. I had to pick as little polish as I could, because otherwise the polish was very eager to drown my cuticles. But that was only the case with the first coat. The second coat gave me no issues.
Ruffles & Feathers – Essie Summer 2014
This is a peacock teal. It is a lot greener than blue to me, well I don’t even know if there is any blue in there, maybe just a little, so that it can be called teal.
It was opaque in two coats and there were no brush strokes and no streakiness.
It was easy to apply and it had a jelly finish. And it did stain my nails a bit after removal, so that was a bit disappointing.
Strut Your Stuff – Essie Summer 2014
It is described as cobalt aqua on Essie’s site. To me it is a vibrant blue and it could be a neon. The colour is a bit darker in person than here in the photos. It looks more pastel here, but it isn’t in person.
I used two coats, but after taking these pictures I saw that there were some sheer spots, which were not visible in photos. So this one needs three coats for full opacity. There were no brush strokes nor streakiness.
It was easy to apply and it had a jelly finish. I think this one makes my hand look tanned (this didn’t translate to photos). And I liked that :).
Overall I am glad I bought this collection, because I like all the colours. My favourite is Urban Jungle, but they are all beautiful.
What do you think of this collection? I bet I am one of the last bloggers doing the swatches on this, so probably everyone has them already. But still, here they are and tell me which ones do you own, or which ones are on your buy list.
